Hidden details that may be robbing your engine performance

There's an old saying, "what you don't know, can't hurt you". That may be true when comes to some things in life, but not when it relates to your engine's performance or efficiency.

This is a close up of a 35,000 mile engine air filter that was long over due for replacement. Depending on driving conditions, such as dusty roads or stop and go driving, your engine's air filter may experience longer or shorter service life.

This what a fresh engine air filter looks like. Of course over time, while doing its intended job, all engine air filters will slowly start to get dirty and plugged up eventually reducing the ability for the engine to easily take in air.

Here are both filters side by side. Imagine jogging and then putting a scarf over your face while running. Which would be easier for "your engine" with or without something blocking your air intake?

Today's the day for the King's Crusade prostate cancer research fund raiser golf event. It turned out to be a beautiful day along with Arnie's Army Battles and the Prostate Cancer Foundation organizers on the Dublin Ranch Golf Course in San Ramon, CA.

Is Premium fuel necessary for your Infiniti?

We get asked this question by many owners and thought we take the mystery out of which grade of gasoline to use in your cars.

Many owners use premium gasoline in the belief that it's better for engines than regular. That can be a costly mistake, especially during times of high fuel prices. Octane grades don't represent a "good, better, best" choice; they simply measure the resistance of fuel to knocking or pinging, a condition in which gasoline burns uncontrollably in the engine's combustion chambers. Knocking and pinging can damage an engine.

While high-octane formulations resist knocking better than lower octanes, most engines are designed to take regular gas, which has an octane rating of about 87. Engines requiring premium gas are typically the more powerful ones found in sports and luxury vehicles, which include those found in your Infiniti. Infiniti engines use a very high compression ratio (which is basically how tight the piston squeezes the air/fuel mixture), making them more vulnerable to knocking, so recommended fuels have octane ratings of 91 or higher.

Some engines for which premium gasoline is recommended can run on regular without problems. That's because the engine's knock-sensor system detects the presence of uncontrolled burning in the combustion chambers. When it does, the engine's computer-control system retards engine timing, eliminating the knock but slightly reducing power.

If you don't mind giving up some performance, you can run these engines on less-expensive regular gasoline. To check whether your engine is capable of running on regular gas, read your owner's manual or give us a call! What grade of fuel do you use in your Infiniti?

Originally called the Stead Open was conceived as the NorCal Sectionals in 1980 and relocated to Moraga Country Club in 1983. Since it's inception, it has grown significantly in spectator participation, player involvement and prize money.

In 1986, the tournament became known as the Stead Open with the involvement of Stead Motors as the major sponsor and the prize money increased from $2,000 to $10,000. This resulted in the tournament earning its way to being considered a very prestigious tennis event. In addition to the increase in prize money, the tournament joined the ranks of open section status which allowed the tournament to draw from a much larger geographic area.

Take advantage of the CAR Allowance Rebate System (CARS), a federal program that helps the consumers buy or lease a more environmentally-friendly vehicle from dealers when they trade in a less fuel-efficient car or truck. The CARS is basically a $1 billion government program through which the consumers can get a $3,500 or $4,500 discount from the dealer when they trade in their old vehicle and buy or lease a new one. One main plus point of the program is that the consumers do not have to register anywhere or at any time for this program. Here are a few important points to keep in mind to utilize the benefits of this program.

Your vehicle must be less than 25 years old on the trade-in date
Only purchase or lease of new vehicles qualify
Generally, trade-in vehicles must get 18 or less MPG (some very large pick-up trucks and cargo vans have different requirements).
Trade-in vehicles must be registered and insured continuously for the full year preceding the trade-in
The program requires the scrapping of your eligible trade-in vehicle, and that the dealers disclose to you an estimate of the scrap value of your trade-in. The scrap value, however minimal, will be in addition to the rebate, and not in place of the rebate.

Tony Stewart overcame a wreck in his primary car Saturday to win the Camping World 300 Nationwide Series race at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. (NASDAQ:ISCA)

Stewart, who drove the No. 80 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports, pitted and fell to 22nd with less than 30 laps to go, with most of the race's leaders staying on the track during its fifth caution flag.
He had wrecked his primary car in Saturday's final practice for the Daytona 500.
During the restart, he quickly moved through the pack and overtook runner-up Carl Edwards with seven laps remaining.
The victory was Stewart's eighth in his Nationwide career, including four at Daytona.
"Kyle (Busch) pushed me all the way through the corner," Stewart said.
Busch made a last-lap charge, nudging Stewart on the backstretch, but his former Joe Gibbs Racing teammate held on to win the season-opener at Daytona for the second straight year.
2008 Nationwide champion Clint Bowyer finished third, Busch fourth and Greg Biffle fifth.

Should he qualify, the race will mark Stewart's first-ever start for car owner Rick Hendrick. The effort will be led by 2003 Nationwide Series champion crew chief Lance McGrew. "After winning the season-opening Nationwide Series race at Daytona three times, we're going to try and get another one, this time for Rick," said Stewart, who has seven career Nationwide Series victories. Infiniti's G35 Sedan gets revamped for 2007, giving it more power with upscale interiors and exteriors. Sedans are offered in base, Journey, G35x, and Sport models; the coupe comes in a single trim level. The G35 sedan and coupe come with rear-wheel drive; the sedan is also available with all-wheel drive G35x. The coupe version of the G35 continues unchanged for 2007.

Under the hood, a 3.5-liter V6 delivers 306 hp, teamed with a 5-speed automatic transmission or 6-speed manual. Coupes make 298 hp with manual transmission, and 280 hp with automatic. The G35x comes only with automatic transmission. Its AWD includes a Snow Mode that locks in a 50/50 front/rear power split. All G35s have ABS, traction control, front side airbags, and curtain side airbags, leather upholstery and bi-xenon headlights as standard.
